What do cheetahs and the KC Royals mascot Sluggerrr have in common? They will both be “on exhibit” at the Kansas City Zoo this Saturday! Kansas City Zoo animals are going blue for the home town team for Royals Day at the Zoo on Saturday, April 1. See our animals enjoy special Royals enrichment items, take your picture with Sluggerrr and save on admission just by wearing Royals gear! You can also meet three new cheetahs that just arrived at the Kansas City Zoo.
Media is invited for a special sneak peek of the action on Friday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. See our elephants raise those trunks in the air and wave their Royals rally towels. We will also stop by the cheetah exhibit to see the new cats exploring their exhibit.
On Saturday, April 1, before the first crack of the bat and the first stolen base, KC Zoo animals are gearing up and donning the “Royal” blue. Our animals will be enjoying special enrichment items like t-shirts, cups, hats, and rally towels donated to them by the Kansas City Royals. Our polar bear, elephants, penguins, orangutans and many more will show their support for the boys in blue. Stop by Tropics and see how our tropical animals are getting in the swing of things!
Bring your camera and take a photo with Sluggerrr from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 1 to 3 p.m.
Zoo Guests will receive $1 off the price of admission just by showing off their team pride and wearing KC Royals apparel.
In the spirit of “Cat”urday, head down to Africa and meet the newest residents of the Kansas City Zoo. These cheetahs, three brothers, are getting acquainted with their new home. Named after Game of Thrones dragons, Viserion, Rhaegal, and Drogon were born on August 17, 2015. Since they are not yet two years old, you will notice they still have bushy fuzzy manes typical of younger cheetahs. Viserion is the lightest in color but also the most aggressive of the three. Drogon is most laid back and can be identified by a missing patch of fur on his head. Rhaegal prefers to keep to himself and is the darkest of the three with a lot of black around his eyes. These three brothers came to us from the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Texas.
Spend your “Cat”urday with the wildest cats in town, including KC’s own king of the jungle–and the diamond–Sluggerrr!
