The river otter is a recovering species of mustelid once found in nearly every body of water in North America. Over hunting for the otter’s luxurious fur lead to a steep decline in their numbers and rarity in wild sightings, recent efforts at reintroduction to native ranges have resulted in a successful comeback. You can find our otters near the front entrance to the Zoo.
