This weekend is packed with wild events at the Kansas City Zoo, and we’re not kidding! Join us for the Grand Opening of the Billy Goats Gruff Yard, a chimpanzee’s first birthday party and penguins marching on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.
The trip-trap of goat hooves fills the air, but beware of the troll that lives beneath the bridge in the Billy Goats Gruff Yard. Themed after the popular children’s book The Three Billy Goats Gruff, this brand new exhibit adds a 5,000-square-foot playground for goats located just across the path from the children’s playground and next to the Discovery Barn. Meet the 22 goats that call this new playground home and get snout to snout with them as they take food from your hand. The Grand Opening will include goat feedings and two special “Three Billy Goats Gruff” puppet shows from Mesner Puppet Theater at 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. After feeding our kids, your kids can head to the lobby and make a goat-themed craft to take home.
Following the Grand Opening, make your way to the chimpanzee exhibit for a very special birthday party. Chimp youngster Milo is turning 2 years old and little Ruw is celebrating her first birthday. Help us sing happy birthday to both of them during the Zookeeper chat at 1 p.m. The chimpanzee troop will enjoy birthday presents while you enjoy delicious cupcakes!
Our Humboldt penguins will be enjoying the sunshine this weekend as well! On the fourth weekend of each month our feathered friends will parade around the Helzberg Penguin Plaza, enjoying the fresh outdoor air. Get an up-close encounter with Humboldt penguins as they strut their stuff for all Zoo guests to see at 11 a.m. both days.
There is always so much to see and do at the Kansas City Zoo. Don’t miss this chance for a VIP experience in the Billy Goats Gruff Yard this weekend!
