Green Revolution Opens
KCZoo: With Green Revolution, the title says it all—this is a revolutionary way that YOU can be a part of the green solution by minimizing your carbon footprint. Green Revolution is a completely an eco-zibit – opening at the Kansas City Zoo proceeding a ribbon cutting on Saturday, April 14 at 9:30 a.m.
Designed in a re-purposed building in Australia, Green Revolution is a multi-platform initiative that demonstrates eco-friendly lifestyle changes as well as ideas for greening buildings and community centers. Inspiring, educating, entertaining and empowering Zoo guests though hands-on interactives and thought-provoking graphics. You can make a difference.
This version of Green Revolution is based on an exhibition originally created by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, and its Black Creativity Council, and is made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.
Green Revolution highlights 8 local companies who are providing or employing green initiatives and provides simple ideas for alterations within your everyday life. Major themes of the exhibit include: energy, carbon footprint, composting, gardening, waste and recycling. Unlike most traveling exhibits, Green Revolution is not packed in a crate and does not travel by truck to each destination. Instead it is created onsite, creating a home-grown eco-zibit.
On site, the Zoo provided the entire physical remodel and the Zoo’s Roots and Shoots Team researched and wrote content along with detailing much of the exhibit. The Zoo’s Team Habitat and the Kansas City Christian High School Robotic Team also contributed to the creation. Funding for this KCZoo exhibit was provided by the Zoo’s Learning Fund.
Green Revolution will be open during the Zoo’s hours, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays and until 5 p.m. on weekends and is free with FOTZ Membership or zoo admission.
