This course connects 2nd grade Science, Literacy and Math objectives through Life Science Education. All educators are welcome, but activities focus on 2nd grade Science, Math and Literacy.
This course will provide teachers an excellent opportunity to explore ways to incorporate Life Science education into the classroom. Through project-based learning, tours, behind-the-scenes with zookeepers, group activities and discussions, teachers will learn how Science, Math, and Language Arts apply to the careers needed to manage a captive animal population. All of the lessons align with the Common Core State Standards in English, Language Arts, and Math.
Elephant In The Classroom runs June 30 through July 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Zoo Learning Center at the Kansas City Zoo. Instructors will be Debra Ryder, M.S. and Sara Pittman, M.S. both of the Kansas City Zoo. Optional Continuing Education credit through UMKC School of Education is available.
