VolunTeen Opportunities and Requirements

Volunteer hours will not be applicable towards school credit or community service hours. However, opportunities outside normal volunteer hours will occasionally arise to fulfill those needs.

Trailblazer VolunTeens

Trailblazers are out in the zoo building and manning trail stations along the Australian Outback, talking and educating guests, along side staff/docents, about animals and conservation. Presentation of biofacts and other educational materials will be required.

Requirement:  8^th and 9^th graders

Orientation:    April TBA

Hours:             9:00- 3:00pm- some weekends & 1 week day each week during the
                        summer (May be asked to volunteer at Special Events as needed)

Application:    Application packets will be accepted between January 1 and March 15;
                        no exceptions.

VolunTeens

VolunTeens will be working with summer camps as counselor assistants- helping kids explore the world of animals through zoo tours, crafts, games and activities. Fundraising, special events, and opportunities in other departments within the Zoo (animal, maintenance, horticulture, administration, etc) will be available as opportunities arise.

Requirement: 10^th & 11^th  graders
