What is Brown and White and Galloping in Africa? A NEW ZEBRA FOAL

A Grant’s zebra was born Saturday, July 31 at the Kansas City Zoo. She has brown stripes instead of black and weighed in at 79 pounds. Brown stripes are natural among newborn zebras; they will turn to black when she is between 9 and 18 months old.

Mom is Jet, Dad is Zanthus; this is their third offspring together.

Zebras have excellent eyesight, a keen sense of smell and are capable of running 40 mph. Every zebra has a different pattern of stripes. The stripes help them avoid predator attacks by making it hard for a predator to single out one animal from a fleeing herd.  Visit the new addition to the herd today!

Name the Zebra foal: Submit your name for the zebra foal at marketing@fotzkc.org. Winning names will be voted on by Zoo Guests.
