Experience a fun-filled learning adventure with our professional instructors and docents when the Kansas City Zoo arrives at your classroom. Each 45-minute program includes live animals, and touchable biofacts, which add depth to your Zoo experience.
PROGRAMS AVAILABLE
Fur, Feathers, Scales and Slime - Grades K and 1 Fill the young minds of with interesting zoo animal facts. Students will compare birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles to see what is alike and what is different. Programs include 3 to 4 live animals along with biofacts.
Animal Tales: Australia, Africa, Amazon, Amphibian, & Reptiles – Grades K to 7th What better way to capture student’s attention than through folktales and stories from faraway lands? You and your students will be introduced to one or two live animals as you listen to a story from a geographic location represented at the Kansas City Zoo. Animal Tales is an informal 30-minute presentation.
Where Do I Fit In – Grades 2 and 3 Have your students ever wondered how scientists group animals? Where Do I Fit In will teach your students how to classify animals based on physical characteristics. Students will learn elementary classification skills. To reinforce what they’ve learned, they will see live animals representing the different groups. Where Do I Fit In is a 45-minute program.
Journey to Survival - Grade 4 and Up Take your students on a journey around the world to locations like Gundagai, Australia, Nanyuki, Kenya, the Amazon Basin. Journey to Survival is an interesting, fun-filled, and interactive program designed to expand each student’s knowledge of endangered animals and what the students can do to aid in the survival of animals around the world. Journey to Survival is a 45-minute program that includes live animals.
Zoo Careers - Grade 7 and Up What does it take to run a major zoo like the Kansas City Zoo? We all know it takes zookeepers, but what about horticulture, public relations, graphics and even education? The list goes on and on. This program highlights many zoological careers essential to operate the Kansas City Zoo.
When: Any day, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Limited evening programs available.
Where: At your school
Length of presentation: 45 minutes
Capacity: Classroom size group, 30 students and teachers max.
Cost: Based on miles from the Zoo, (cost of travel included):
0 to 30 - $125 for the first program and $50 each additional program.
31 to 60 - $175 for the first program and $50 each additional program.
61 to 90 - $225 for the first program and $50 each additional program.
* Programs are also available to homeschool groups.
