Resources Available to Schools and Teachers

The Kansas City Zoo's Education Department wants to partner with you in your classroom. Please consider using these resources.

Class Projects
We want to work with you to make your class projects the best. All class projects must be pre-approved. Please complete the Zoo Project Request Form (PDF) and submit to the Zoo's Education Department. Please allow one to two weeks for project approval.

Adopt A Wild Child
Did you know that your classroom can adopt an animal at the Zoo? For more information click Adopt, to find out how your class can adopt an animal and learn many lessons along the way.

Internships
Zoo internships for college students are done on a limited basis and are department specific. For more information click Internships, and follow the link to Employment Opportunities for an internship application.

Job Shadows
The Zoo offers limited job shadow experiences and opportunities are department specific. At this time due to various reasons we do not schedule job shadows in our animal areas. Most often students are connected with the Education Department, where they have the opportunity to see our collection of teaching animals assisting staff in delivering conservation messages.

Resource Library
Please visit the Zoo’s resource library. It has a wide variety of books, magazines, videos and more. Whether writing a report or seeking to enhance curriculum, there is something for you. For an appointment, please call 816-513-5750.

Teacher Resource Fairs
The Zoo’s Education Department is available to provide an informational display for teacher resource fairs.

Outreach Trunks
Trunks integrate activities across curriculum on such topics as Australian Adventure, African Safari Outreach Trunks, Destination Domestication and Suitcase for Survival.

Teaching Kits
Teaching Kits offer a sampling of animal artifacts, books, posters, videos and more for students to explore right in the classroom. Call to see how a kit can be customized to your teaching needs.

For more information or to schedule a visit, please call 816-513-5723, or e-mail education@fotzkc.org.
